There are many different professional roles in the aviation environment. Some qualifications are required to work in these roles. These qualifications are necessary for the work to be done correctly and completely. From this point of view, skills such as analytical thinking, quick decision making, short-term memory, and three-dimensional thinking are required for Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers in general.
As we mentioned, someone who wants to work in a role or to receive training may be subjected to some tests by the applied company. During these tests, the required abilities of the person are measured and it is investigated whether he/she is suitable for the role he/she is applying for.
As Aviationfile, we have developed an application that you can prepare for Cube folding questions. The application consists of 150 unique questions in total. Click to go to the play store page of our “Cube Folding” application.
FEAST Test – DLR test For ATC and Pilots
When you apply for Pilotage and Air Traffic Control roles, you will come across a number of exams. As an example, we can give the FEAST (First European ATC Selection Test) exam designed by Eurocontrol and the Pilot selection exams conducted by the German DLR company. In these exams, there are sections with Cube Folding questions.
In the continuation of our article, there are examples and tips about “Cube folding” questions. First of all, it is useful to point out some points. Some of the skills sought in these exams are not at the same level and capacity in every person due to the nature of the human being. Some people are naturally very adept at tests like these, and they may come easy to them. On the other hand, some people need to work and practice to realize these abilities and their potential.
In Cube folding questions, you are asked to know the closed form of the cube shape given in the open form in the question. Let’s look at the following question. (Click for aviationfile Cube Folding Application play store page)
In the image above, there are possible open cube forms on the right. On the left is a sample question. In the example question, you see a cube open.
Shapes on Cube Folding questions
– The shapes on the cube can change. Shapes such as dots, arrows, dice, stars, lines can be found on the cube.
While solving the questions, you need to visualize the closed version of the open cube form in your mind. Let’s give a few tips that may be useful to you while solving these questions.
– If there is something unique among the open cube shapes, select it and look at the surfaces in contact with that shape. Consider this relationship between the choices in the question.
– If there is a shape like an arrow on the cube, the surface pointed by the tip of this arrow does not change even when the cube is closed.
– Surfaces that do not come into contact with each other on a straight axis on an open form cannot come into contact even when they become closed cubes.
Let’s look at these types on an example.
Besides all this, everyone’s way of solving cube folding questions may be different. Some people may find methods that are more suitable for them. My advice is to find your own method. As you solve the questions, you will find the solutions that are easier for you.
